On Friday 2/20 I went to an ATM in Detroit to withdraw $20 from my account. I used a non-5/3 bank atm, and it processed my withdrawal and gave me the $20.
The next statement dated 2/24 showed an overdraft of $0.95, and an overdraft fee of $30 applied to my account. Unfortunately I was in the bank on 2/23 to deposit a paycheck, and no notice was given then either.
The online rep claims that the ATM withdrawal was not an error. I disagreed, stating that for electronic transfers, they check the balance for authorization, and I should have gotten 'unable to process' notice.
Instead, they let me take the $20, overdraft my account for $0.95, and charge me $30.
That's approximately an APR of 3,157 percent!
I recommend that any reasonable person would look elsewhere for banking. Fifth Third will lose my business, and I'll make sure that I inform as many persons as possible to cost them business well over the $30 they took from me.
