I had a card with FCNB. I paid them as I paid all my accounts, but they consistently added a late fee. I kept paying earlier and earlier, but kept getting late fees.
Soon, over the limit fees were added because I had reached my limit with late fees. I phoned them and was told if I pay by with a check by phone in a certain amount, my account would be uptodate. I did and the next thing I knew I had overthelimit fees AGAIN!
I phoned them again and they asked for another $100 check by phone. I refused until I could find out what was going on.
Finally, I learned that my statement was cut on the 12th of the month but overthelimit and/or late fees was added on the 14th, so there was NO way to pay by the statement and stay current. The rude young man told me that the statement was a reflection of the previous month and NOT current. I asked him how I was supposed to pay if I couldn't know how much to pay.
After spending about 30 minutes with his rudeness I told him to make a notation in the file that they could just "charge it off" because I would no longer be making payments. Anyway, has anyone else found they were charged after their statements were cut and is this legal?
