FCNB credit card customers check your statements. With your December or January closing statement you should have received a 2 page Important Notice of Change In Terms To Your FCNB Accounts notifing customes of late fee and overlimit fee increase from $29 to $35 effective 1/01/02.
I did not receive a closing statement for 1 or a copy of this notice of change, and I suspect 1000's of other customers also were not notified. Look closly at your statements as I was charged $35 O/L fee on 11/26/01,12/26/01 and a $35 late fee on 11/26/01, all prior to to effective 1/01/02 date. Also a sneaky $35 late fee with description: LATE FEE DEC PAYMENT was charged on my 2/25/02 closing statement.
These erroneous charged caused my credit card to go over the $300 limit by $13.38 causing a domino effect of over $400 in erroneous fees over a 7 month period. I charged only $59 on the card and ended up paying over $500 in monthly payment over a 7 month period. To make matters worse, FCNB cancelled my card, turned it over to collections with Alliance One and continued sending monthly closing statements assessing O/L and late fees for 4 months demanding of over $900 total.
AS a result, I have derogatory information on my credit report and do not have a credit card because of FCNB. Check your statements for Min. Payment due of $10 which is a trick to get you to send only $10 and charge you $70 in fees to throw your account overlimit thereby assessing more fees. And also look for Past Due Amount of $10 which is arbitrarily added to closing statements as a trick and no matter how large a payment you make, additional erroneous fees will be assessed.
