I hired a van through A1 National Van Hire on the 1st August. I paid the fee and was told that a £250 deposit would be taken out of my account, but this was refundable once the van was returned.
The van was actually supplied by Enterprise. It was brand new and delivered to my door - perfect.
Enterprise collected the van the next day and on the 3rd August I contacted A1 to see when the £250 deposit would be refunded. I was told that this usually takes around 48 hours.
I rang again on the 5th August, as it still wasn't showing in my account to be told that the 'paperwork' hadn't come through from Enterprise until the 3rd August so it would be 48 hours from then.
I rang back on Monday 8th August to be told that £250 had been repaid in to my account - it hadn't.
I rang again on the 9th and was told that there had been an 'error with their bank' and that the deposit had not taken place after all. After an argument I was told that my deposit would be returned 'within the next 7-10 days!!!'
At this point I wrote a formal complaint to the company threatening legal action if they didn't return my money. I have still not had any reply from them.
I have called them again this week and was told on Monday that payment would be made later that day. Guess what - no sign of it.
I have just spoken to them this morning to be told that payment was sent at 5pm yesterday and could take 48 hours to go in to my account.
I have tried to reason with them, be firm with them and even argue with them but still my £250 has not be returned.
I am now going to seek legal advice and look to recover my money through court - absolutely ridiculous and hassle I can do without.
Do not use a1 as they are nothing but fraudsters!
