Cox, Wells & Associates Deceptive low-life sociopathic rip-offs

These low-life's "National Accounts Director", Charlie Brown, (purportedly) called me out of the blue, bragging about his company's track record of collecting past due debts for other clients. I allowed him ro talk me into giving him one of my smaller overdue accounts, as the 20% he said they would charge me would be about what I'd spend chasing the guy down and sueing him myself. I had hoped to save myself that pain in the butt and was happy to let them keep 20% if they could collect the debt. BIG MISTAKE!
They apparently almost immediately were able to collect half of the debt by offering to settle for half, but making the terms difficult to understand or comply with. I did not learn of this until I called the debtor and he was crowing to me about the deal he'd made with my "lawyer", Cox, Wells & Associates to settle for half. I didn't see that one coming. I immediately called their 800 number and some character filled my ears with much blather about how they'd tricked the debtor into paying half, and, after being unable to comply with the terms of the settlement, would then be compelled to pay the rest. I was sucked in at that point and decided to let it play out their way.
A couple of months had gone by and I still had not heard from them nor did I have any of the proceeds from collection efforts. I called again, this time much more insistent that somebody actually involved with my case talk to me and explain to my satisfaction what the hell is going on. I did not ever get past whoever answers the phone. (Jen?) I did get an e-mail address, and composed a rather pointed email requesting some specific details about my account, which went unanswered or even aknowledged. I also faxed a copy of the email with the same result. A few days later, I received a check from them for 50% of the 50% they'd collected with no explanation other than a statement that their fee had magically grown to 50% instead of the agreed upon 20%. I called again and the gal got huffy and hung up on me. I immediately emailed them again, demanding that they pay me the rest of what they owe so far. As of today, they remain silent to my faxes and emails.in retrospect, it's no wonder they won't respond in any way; they are exposed as crooks and charlatans and have no defense or, for that matter, shame.
