Deceptive Business Practices and Hidden Fees

I closed my account with Cross-Check/Check Center in January and was told at that time that I would still have to pay for another 30 days of service, even though I wasn't going to be using the service. I paid my $20 for February even though I hadn't used the service. I thought all of the charges were completed until I just saw that I had $155.25 debited from my check account. I called them and they said that it was an early cancellation fee; I still have to pay for the rest of the months of the year that I am no using their service. When I was grilling the representative in January about the cancellation and asked if there were any other fees, she said no. Amy, the supervisor, said that they are NOT OBLIGATED TO TELL ME THE TRUTH ABOUT ANY ADDITIONAL FEES, that it is in the contract (which it is not) and that I should remember that section. I asked her where in the Contract—looked under Terms and Conditions and NO WHERE DOES IT SAY THAT IF YOU CANCEL the one year agreement early that you will have to pay out the rest of the year. The Terms only says that you have to give written notice. It reads this agreement shall be for a 12 month period. Again, no where in the Terms page does it say anything about early cancellation issues or early cancellation fees.

Needless to say, I will be filing a complaint with the BBB in CA and also filing a formal complaint with the Attny Generaly of California. I am also planning on notifying the Attny General of Texas about this company so that should they try to locate here, then there will be a mark on their record. It is also my plan to notify the various networking groups that I am involved with about this unfriendly business practices.

STAY AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY, horrible customer service and small business owners, like myself, will lose money with them. They are adding things to their contract that aren't there in hopes that people will not fight them on it or that the debits that they take out of your bank account will not be noticed. They keep hiding behind that "its in the contract", but it is not.
