I received a phone call from Brooke (Agent #NS305) from Credit Education Group stating that I was approved for $2500.00 credit limit. She claimed that she received my information from a credit card company and the purpose of the program is to help establish and/or repair people's credit.
She gave me the choice of a Matercard or Visa, and went on to ask me yes or no questions. When she mentioned that I had to pay $297.00 for the credit card I asked her why. She stated that "they" had 16 different banks that they use and it would be used similar to a security deposit. The money drafted from my account on 6/17/03. With a ten day arrival time for paperwork, card and etc.
When I tried to call the number to cancel, it was constantly busy. I tried to cancel the check through the bank, but they used a draft versus the check number.
The company appeared legitimate, I was given the customer service number 866-310-0695 and a supervisor's name Phil Davis, plus a contract ID#. I even went through the phone verification process. While I did not give them the last four digits of my SSN, they had it on file.
I am filing a claim at my bank to get my money back and change my account information.
