Having relocated to the US in January I was finding it difficult to establish a credit history.Co-incidently I had just applied for and been approved for a secured credit card with my bank on the same day this Credit Education Group called me and congratulated me on having been approved for a Visa credit card. The once off charge was to amount to $298.
I thought that this company was perhaps a division of my bank and handled their credit card transactions and I thus unknowingly provided them with my routing and checking account number. They asked me to provide them with a check number, which they said I should cancel for my records as this number would be used to deduct the $298 from my check account. The man on the phone said the card would be delivered within 10 days and he was going to transfer me over to a recording system which would be used to offcially record the transaction.
I was then transferred to another man and he asked me a number of questions, the answers to which were being recorded. I am not sure what the purpose of all this was but I am providing the detail so that anyone else who comes accross this scam will be able to identify it, even if another company name is used by these fraudsters.
When I found out that this credit card had nothing to do with the one being offered by my bank I serched the internet at Excite.com and found this FANTASTIC website, which thank goodness resulted in me taking immidiate action with my bank.
The advice given to me was to close my checking account and open another as a result of the information I had disclosed and I agree that this option makes the most sense to me. Do not wait for the debit to go through and then try and recover the money!!!
If anyone out there from the Credit Education Group, aka First Choice, aka Pieces of SH1T I hope you realise your scam is over and that you all burn in hell like the pieces of SH1T you are should.
