Job fair bait-and-switch tactics to hire people for collections

I do not trust Bank of America as they employ bait-and-switch tactics for their hiring practices. I was unemployed and registered with the Texas State Workforce Commission (TWC) to find a job. They called me and told me about a job fair Bank of America was having at their corporate office on Legacy Rd.in Plano, TX.

The list of positions they were hiring for included a Loan Officer Specialist and that they had numerous openings for this position. This was my career field so I thought this would be perfect. The rep at TWC told me they were having the job fair the next day and they were interviewing between 9am to noon and then again between 3pm-6pm.

The next day, I put my suit on and got all ready and arrived at around 3:30 P.M. To apply for the Loan Officer Specialist position. I went to the area where they were conducting the job fair and told a lady there the position I was applying for. She said she was sorry but they had already filled that position earlier in the day and the only positions still open was for collections and asked if I would be interested.

I asked her how could they have filled the position already when they were supposed to be interviewing all day. She said this was the way Bank of America does it. I could not understand this and did not believe that they had already made a decision to fill a supposedly open position while they were still conducting interviews.

It seems that they would wait till the end of the day after accepting all applications and then make a decision. I had never heard of a large company making an on-the-spot decision to hire someone. Usually it is several days to a week before they make a decision, after they had received all the resumes and applications for a particular position.

As I was standing there, another person applying for a job walked up and told the lady she was applying for some other position. The lady repeated the same thing that she had told me, that they had already filled the position she was applying for earlier in the day and asked her if she would be interested in doing collections.

It was then that I realized that they never had these other positions open. They probably have a hard time finding people that want to do collections so they advertise these other job positions to get people in the door. Once they are there, they tell them whatever position they were applying for has been filled and then try to get them to apply for collections.

This really makes me angry that they wasted half my day by employing these bait-and-switch tactics. I will surely never do any banking business with Bank of America.
