I had been banking with BB&T for five years when suddenly I began receiving overdraft fees.in checking my account, I had made my deposit the day before prior to the 2 P.M. Cut off; however, the transaction list had debit items form my Check Card processed before my deposit credit. When I called to bring this to their notice, they stated they we allowed to do this, as they had put a new policy in place 6 months ago that allowed them to process Check Card transactions prior to deposits. They stated they had notified all customers; however, I never saw anything stating such.
This practice is unethical. The Check Card is just an electronic version of my checkbook—it allows me to pay for items without the hassle of writting out a check. If my checks post after my deposit, so should my Check Card transactions. This is only fair. The only reason behind this unethical practice is to hopefully charge customers fees. Though they have received deposited money to cover any and all transactions I make on my account, they choose to process that deposit after processing debits that will ensure they can make money on fees.
I am thoroughly disappointed and disgusted with BB&T.
