Suddenly charges monthlly fees for "free checking"

I've had free checking at Wells Fargo for 12 years. Suddenly, I receive a $12 monthly charge. When I called, they said I needed $5,000 or more in my account. I told them I had a combination of over $30,000 in various accounts and a mortgage with them. Apparenly, they moved my accounts around to be only linked to some but not to each other. I never initiated the changes. WF refused to reverse the fee or adjust the account to a basic free checking account. They then transferred me to a sales person who tried to "sell me" on a different type of account. Apparently the "customer service" girl gets paid $10 for every customer she sends to the sales department. Then the sales girl said, whoops I can't change you around right now because it's almost time to charge you $12 again and I can't do anything for 4 days after the cut off date. My only recourse is to close all my accounts out which I plan on doing next week. It will be a major pain, but I was given no notice, just my account somehow changes types of accounts over night. I wonder if they did this to hundreds of thousands of "free checking" account holders. They probably figured it would take most people months to figure out that they were being charged $12 and most wouldn't take the time to do anything about it. Think of the millions of dollars they could make just by this one little trick. I challenge all dissatisfied WF customers to move out of WF and find a bank that values their customers.

Another thing WF has been doing is when you make a deposit, even without a hold, they don't credit your account for 24 to 48 hours, but a debit is taken out of your account immediately. If they have the technology to debit your account immediately, they should also credit your account immediately. And for their Visa, the cut off date for payments is a full week ahead of the cut off date for the charges put on the card. Again, if they have the technology to process charges up to the 7th, then the payments received up to the 7th should also be reflected on the statement, but payments are cut off on the 3rd. Let's tell WF we aren't taking it any more and find a local bank who won't play tricks with OUR money.
