I'm looking to get some info/advice from people. About 10 years ago I had a problematic phone bill w / Verizon. I paid it off, cancelled the phone account, moved on w / my life, or so I thought. About a year ago I started getting harassing phonecalls from Palisade Collection Agency about this bill I still owe on allegedly. 10 years later, keep in mind. Not sure what the statute of limitations is for this sort of thing. Not wanting this hanging over my head or my credit report, I paid it off, in full. Now, 1 year later, the same thing... Harassing phone calls on a daily basis over what they are now calling a balance due on my paid account. What??!!! Their claim is that I did not pay them in full last year due to non-sufficient funds (which is not true). They never received my check or so they claim so I stopped payment on it (incurring a stop payment fee from my bank), so I then paid them over the phone w / my debit card. Never got anything in writing saying account is paid... This is my bad. I know better now. I've called & asked them to send me something in writing, a statement or something for this new found amount I owe. Even though they know & I know that I don't really owe them a dime, should I pay it AGAIN in hopes that I don't continue to go through this every year w / this place?
Any advice or feedback is appreciated.
