It seems that with every new week I receive a new offer for a Providian Visa Platinum Credit Card. Promising no interest until May w/up to a $30K credit line, based on my good credit. Signed by Beth Greiner, Exec. Vp. I finally bit. I was "pre-approved, " my credit reports are excellent, I have an Amex Gold & a Citibank Mastercard w / zero balances, I earn a comfortable income, and don't owe anyone a dime.
I was denied on the basis that Providian has a negative relationship w / my "household." What household? I live alone and have never been married. I have nodependents. I had a roommate at this address for two years and I remember him having problems w/Providian... His problem... Providian's problem... NOT my problem.
I contend that Providian is breaking the law by denying me credit solely on the basis of my house number. If law enforcement used Providian's fascist formula, we could all expect to be held accountable for the infractions of former roommates. Whoa! Look out former roommates of OJ Simpson and Ken Lay! Anyone else have the same problem w/Providian? I would be interested in taking part in a class action lawsuit.
