A few years ago I noticed a civil judgemental on my credit report. After some investigating I found out the original debt did not belong to me but a member of my household that had moved away several years earlier. Somehow when the judgment was filed with the courts I was included as a joint account holder which I never was. After contacting the attorney and the three credit bureaus this judgment was removed off my credit report. Only recently did I check all 3 of my credit reports to see that the judgment has been put back on one of my credit reports. They are fraudulently claiming this debt is mine.
I was never served court papers and I never signed anything to be a joint accountholder with this family member.in fact the first time around the attorney told me none of my information or signature is on the original credit card application or any paperwork. So how is it they are allowed to come after me for a debt I don't owe? I haven't had a garinshment or lien placed on any of my accounts but I am in the process of shopping for a mortgage and having this erroneous information will be detrimental. I am at a loss of what to do to clear this up.
On a side note I filed Bankruptcy a few months after I discovered this judgment the first time. If it was legitimately my debt I would have included it in my Bankruptcy paperwork.
