Recently I attempted to cash a check received from a friend at her bank - BB&T. I was informed that, because I do not have an account at this bank, there would be a $5.00 service charge to cash it.
This is a check, written by one of their customers, drawn on their bank. The amount in the payment line is $*.*, NOT $*.* less $5.00 for the bank. When I present a check for payment, I expect to receive the amount for which it is written. Is this even legal?!?
