I processed 2 payments, and they didn't credit them to my account. I have copies of both processed checks...
I made a home loan with Option One Mortgage Company. The loan was sold to Countrywide Home Loans, and I was very satisfied with their service. Then Countrywide sold the loan to Fairbanks Capital Corp. This is when my home loan, which I had no problem paying, went to hell. I sent 2 payments to the Fairbanks cashiering department, both of which were cashed and not put toward my account...
I found out about this when I got a call from the Fairbanks collection department telling me my home loan was 3 months behind (mind you, my loan is due on the first of every month with a ten-day grace period). I received this call on 2/4/03. I get paid on the 7th of each month, so I was holding on until payday to pay the mortgage. The caller, whose name I don't remember, told me that I owed $1,840.00. I was stunned! I knew for a fact that he was dead wrong, so I contacted my credit union to inquire about the last 2 checks that I had sent to the Fairbanks cashiering department, to see if they were processed or missing in the mail. Lo and behold, 2 days later I got my answer: both checks were processed, and I have copies of them. So I called Fairbanks customer service and gave them the check numbers to see if they could find the problem:
Check # 259043 - $617.00
Check # 269925 - $611.00
Anyway, the person on the phone told me to fax copies of the checks to the research department, which I did the very next morning at work. Then I went to my Western Union office and made a Quick Collect for the difference of the amount they said I owed. Balance owed, per Fairbanks: $1,840.00 - $617.00 - $611.00 = $612.00.
After sending copies of the checks, I called Fairbanks back to give customer service the Quick Collect MTCN number. At this time I am totally current on my house loan according to my records.
I still receive calls from the Fairbanks collections department regarding payment, and I still try to explain the problem with this account to the agent at Fairbanks, but I am getting nowhere... I can't even talk to a human. It's all an automated response on the phone when I call, asking for my SSN and directing me straight to the collections department. I have no idea what more to do. If you or your staff can help me in this situation, or if you know of a number I can call at Fairbanks to talk to a supervisor, please contact me. FAIRBANKS IS FORCING MY HOME LOAN INTO DEFAULT, and it's very sad because I am current.
