In June 1999 my husband attempted suicide. I called Homecomings and advised them of the situation-they told me to call 911! We ended up filing for bankruptcy as my husband did significant damage to himself and was unable to work for 6 months. We caught our mortgages up after the time elapsed on the bankruptcy.
We have 2 mortgages both through Homecomings. The 1st tried to foreclose on us even after we filed request to reaffirm the loans in bankruptcy. Our attorney intervened and we were able to stop the foreclosure process with my parents help.
After 9-11, the company my husband worked for filed for Chapter 13 Bankruptcy and his ability to earn income dropped from $1800.00 a month to $450.00 a month. I work also-but with medical bills, etc and the amount of the 2nd-which kept raising (12.75%) we were unable to make full payments-I mailed written and faxed notice to homecomings advising of situation and requesting assistance. Their response-file for foreclosure on the 2nd mortgage.
I have called Homecomings by my documented records
187 times-I have held for up to 2 1/2 hours and been transferred to 9 different people during one phone call. Homecomings made no offer to reduce payments, forebearance, etc. I found out about these options from my State Senator. The 2nd has now sold the mortgage back to themselves-they won't give me payoffs and basically tell me that want us evicted. Through all this the 1st
is current and up to date.
I have been offerred no hope and I have filed complaints with HUD, which according to Homecomings is why they won't work with me. Now I didn't file complaints against Homecomings until August of 10 months after I began this task. I am currently attempting to refinance-through another company-at a higher interest rate, of course, and in going back over my loans from date of origination until present-I have found several errors that amount to a couple of thousand dollars that I have been unable to get Homecomings to account for. If others would like to pursue a Class Actionn Suit I would love to join in.
Service should be the number one priority-I can't believe they'd rather have my meager home (1800 sq ft total) than the money. I think it's more of an issue of control and CYA than it is to assist those who aren't perfect.
