My employer is located in Carpinteria and banks WITH Bank of America. Please note that there are not many banks in this sleepish beach town to begin with... But does that give this corporate monster the right to charge people a "FEE" for cashing their employer checks (drawn on a Bank of America account) and cashed AT a Bank of America?!?!
I spoke with the Branch Manager, who had no answer but "well those people don't have an account here". Okay so what?! Their Employer does. Bank of America already knows whether there are sufficient funds to cash these checks (or not) - what exactly are they charging for, when they are merely faciliting people the money located in their bank? I called the ever blessed "800" for "Service Issues" - all they did was regurgitate what the Branch Manager said "it's a fee". Well, isn't that what Check Cashing Places charge BECAUSE they are NOT a bank, let alone THE bank???
After contacting the two (2) only other banks in this town - guess what? They DO NOT charge any kind of fee for cashing any kind of check, as long as the check was drawn from that particular financial institution. I remember now, why I cancelled my B of A account sometime ago... Haha and they want me to encourage people to bank there? I think NOT.
