Baddd Behavior - Bank of America Garrett Rd PA

I had occasssion to visit the Bank of America on Garrett Rd in Drexel hill PA on 11/14 to cash a check drawn on Bank of America.

I was told by the teller, Danielle Carter, that THIS bank does not cash checks. I responded by saying, "That is odd..? Every other BOA has cashed checks drawn on their bank without a problem." I asked Ms Carter if this was a new policy and she stated, "No it has always been that way."

I left the bank went to my car and called the BOA 1-800 number. I spoke with Amy and she stated that the bank manager has the right to deny any check. I asked what would be the reason for not cashing a check darwn on the BOA by an individual present the proper identification? She repeated her aforementioned response. I then asked if she could give me the name of the manager of the bank and she stated that she connect me with him.

I spoke with Mr. George and told him that I was sitting, inside in my car, and would come into the bank to see him. I explained the situation to Mr George. He looked at my check and immediately said, " This check is above our check cashing limit." A this point the teller, Dannielle Carter, began to key in numbers from the check into her computer. After a few minutes of 'dramatic' key stroking, she cashed the check. She had the manager Micheal George verify something-or-another.

So. The bank that does not cash checks cashed a check. The check that was above the limit suddenly was not above the limit.

What is the deal here? A check that is less than $2500 should not create a problem for a bank to cash. But if the person cashing the check does not fit the preconceived idea of what that person should look like a check of this size becomes 'above the limit' and people are told 'this bank does not cash checks'. I will most likely not go into BOA again and I will probably encourage my staff to do the same.
