I am 6 months behind in payments with Citimortgage and scared to death of what will happen to me

I became legally blind in October due to a virus. I had an affordable mortgage with a local bank and all was fine.in early 2007 I needed funds to help my son in college so I refinanced the loan with another lender who then sold it to Citimortgage after one month. I did not have trouble getting credit for my payments as others have but I always paid online. I did have a lot of the other troubles everyone speaks of regarding contacting employees and being lied to. About 6 months ago I became very ill with a terminal disease and have had two surgeries and take about 12 different medications. I have had no health insurance since 2005 and could no longer keep up with the bills. Something had to give in order to afford my very expensive medical care and medication. Just one medication cost $775.00 for 30 pills. I get some for free from the drug companies but not all. Anyway, I am behind and see no way to get caught up because they are demanding a large payment and will not reduce the interest rate. They will move a couple payments to the end of the loan but that is not enough to help. I got taken when I refinanced and took on a much higher interest rate. They adjusted my income and made it larger than it was and told me they were allowed to do this and the loan was obviously NOT in my best interest. There is an early payoff penalty on the loan of about 5%. So even if I sell the home on the market for what I owe, the penalty, the real estate fees, closing costs, etc. It still would be too much to sell. You have to practically give away your home here to sell it. The loan is a joke. There were so many fees and missing documents, etc. It was a mess. I am sure I was not properly advised as to my right to cancel which I understand can be as long as three years. My fear right now is not knowing what they are doing about my loan. I have received a document telling me how much to pay and when to pay it by but I don't think this is the summons I read about. I would like to know what to look for and what the steps are that they will take to foreclose on the home. I would love to keep it but cannot afford it under this new interest rate. I have a real estate agent and have been trying to sell the home for over a year now. I live in Southern Florida where property is not selling at all. The agent has been trying to work out a short sale with no luck. I don't want someone waiting in the bushes for me to leave the home and lock me out. As I said, I am legally blind and very ill. I would die if I could not get to my medications immediately. So you can see why I am so scared. I also have two dogs in the home. I would like to stay in the home as long as I can so I can save up the money because I need to move. I need a special home due to my disability and one that allows pets as my dogs both assist me. What can I do to protect myself from being locked out without notice? I cannot afford an attorney, there is no way I can do that. I have not been able to pay any of my bills so I will probably be filing bankruptcy soon. It's a lot of paperwork to do it myself. Everything I do takes 10 times a long as a sighted person. I can't afford any help. Please give me any advice you can think of to help me. As long as I know what the timeline is and they have to stick to it, I can deal with it and not put myself in a position of harm. Thanks so much.
