I am trying to rebuild my credit after a divorce. I got an invitation from Capital One for a Platinum MasterCard and accepted.
Almost from the outset, they were pinning last minute charges to my account and then tacking on a cute little over-the-limit fee. At first, I paid and remained quiet. I figured it was the price I had to pay for the divorce. But then they started posting my payments later than when they were made. On one occasion, their website and phone payment lines were unavailable until the hour in which everything flipped to the following business day. They hit me with a late charge, which pushed me over my limit and then the over the limit fee to boot!
At this point, I got mad and complained, they withdrew the charges but then denied me an increase on my credit line saying that I had gone over too many times and made too many tardy payments.
Not more than an hour ago, I contacted them and told them where to stick their card. I know my credit is in the dirt again but I will not be kicked around by these people!
My personal recommendation is if you get a Capital One invite, tear it up, burn it or line your cats litter box with it before you send it in!
