In Dec. 2000 I went to Citibank to merge two accounts together and make a deposit of 7 to 9,000 dollars. I waited for three hours and kept seeing people come after me, get service, and leave. I made a complaint to customer service, asking why my name was being pushed back and people who came hours after me were served and left. She reported to the manager and said the next available rep would see me.
I went to the next available rep. First she told me I had been waiting a very long time and that she only worked on Saturdays. She took all my info, which included two CD deposit certificates and my renewal letters. I also gave her the money. She said she would close both accounts and open a new one, and then she made out a withdrawal slip for what I think was about $5,000, which she said I had to sign to close one account. I signed as she said, but she did not make out a redeposit slip for me to sign. I thought the money would go in automatically, like the cash I gave her.
I was very upset already from standing so long waiting, and I was going to close the account, but she said the interest would not be in the account until Monday and I would have to go back. So I just merged the two accounts and deposited the cash.
I did not ask any questions. I just wanted to get out of there. The lady took all my info and did not give me anything back for the new certificate of deposit, which did not seem right. I thought that when I received the next renewal letter I would see the difference, but it remained the same. I was sick for a couple of months and was away for a while, so I did not get back to it until now. I do not have any info to go on except one account on a W-2 form for tax purposes.
This money was for my son's college fund. At the time I opened the account, I was a single mother working 65 to 70 hours a week to save the money for my son.
I visited the bank and was told they only have 3 months of records. I wrote a letter and got no response. They have cameras, so I am sure they could play back the footage and see what happened. I also called the main office, and they still have old info in the account. Please help me get back what is rightfully mine.
