I am completely disgusted with CitiBank. I have had a basic checking account for years and was told that if I made 5 debit purchases a month I would not be charged a monthly fee of $7. Now the fee is $10 a month unless I have direct deposit AND bill pay, or keep $1,500 in my account?! So the thought process is, if someone has money, let's let them have a free checking account, but if they can't afford it, let's charge them even more! What exactly do we get for $10 a month? I pay Netflix less than that and have access to thousands of movies. What is is that Citi gives to it's customers for $10 a month besides aggravation and trying to bleed as much out of them as possible?
Words cannot express my absolute disgust with Citibank and their blatant greed. First Citi steals hundreds of millions of dollars of our hard earned money in that joke of a bailout, and now they have the gaul to up their fees and charge us even more?!
I have already been mulling over switching to another bank. I have several friends who have closed their Citi accounts and have been encouraging me to do the same but I have been hesitating. Thank you Citi, you have made this a lot easier for me. At this point I am even prepared to pay TD's $3.99 monthly fee, it seems a little more reasonable and feels less like I am being robbed by my own bank.
Citi seems to be doing everything you can to make sure they squeeze every single possible penny out of their "customers, " except of course the ones who, in this economy, can keep $1,500 in their checking account at all times. Meanwhile when I spoke to customer service they explained that Citi thought this would be "easier" for it's customers. Apparently it's easier to pay more money and have more restrictions as to how to have a free account.
Citibank should really be ashamed (this of course would assume that they actually care). Of course it is my own stupidity, I should have switched banks years ago when Citi stole the bailout money. If a bank is moronic enough not to be able to handle their own money, what does that make those of us who trust them with our own money?
