Got a letter from MCM (Midland Credit Management) claiming they had purchased the debt from a Citibank Visa account opened in 93 and closed in 98. They claim it closed with a negative balance of 2k. I've re-fi'd numerous times where all debts were required to be paid off prior to the re-fi closing. I never heard a word from Citibank in 9 years. This came completely out of left field. When phone operator was confronted with this he just said, "OK, we'll forward this to our debt validation department." You may hear from them once it is validated. Sounds pretty shady to me.
