Midland Credit Management
Midland Credit Management sent me a 'settlement' letter for 40% off a debt they claimed I had from 1987!

I received a letter last week from MCM offering a settlement for a debt from a CITIBANK account they had apparently purchased. It seems that the world and his brother have received similar fraudulent letters. I called the number on the letter and some lady told me it was for a debt for something to do with Citibank from 1987!!! She actually had all my SS# and address details correct but I have no knowledge of any debt with Citibank or anyone else from that time... 21 years is well past the statute of limitations. As far as I know, I don't have any outstanding debts... But who the hell keeps records for 21 years.

I found hundreds of web sites and blogs with damning information on this company and so I sent them a validation letter, pointing out the statute of limitations.in addition, according to other NY victims, MCM does not have a license to operate in NY. I also left messages for Robin Ross Pruitt, their House Attorney and Angelique Purvis, their Consumer Relations Manager. I also filed an on-line complaint with the FTC.

According to other blogs, MCM are pitbulls. They DON'T respond to validation requests and then send out court notices within a few days of sending their letters. If you turn up in court, they don't send representatives. If you don't, apparently, you're the one who loses out. I cannot believe the FTC allows them to operates and the courts waste their time and money allowing this company to bring up malicious suits. These people are time wasting crooks and the current system allows these people to operate. Advice is to take MCM to court... But who has the time or money to do this. Any other advice as to how to get these thugs off my back, I'd welcome. Is it best to just throw away their letter and ignore it?
