I had a Capitol One card I obtained several years ago. I have never, ever recieved a bill in time to make a payment. I decided to cancel this account in Jan 07. I called the company, requested to close the account, and paid the balance in full by check card.
I recieved a bill in APRIL for over 200.00. I called again, and was told that the account was closed incorrectly and that some of the fees could be refunded, but I would still have to pay to close the account. So I paid approx 180.00 and thought the matter closed.
I recieved a bill for 85.40 on Jul 28th! I then spent over an hour on the phone - most of it on hold - with no resolution. I was hung up on 3 times. The "past due" amount on my bill was 1.08. I never recieved any correspondence from capital one regarding this amount. I was under the impression that my account was closed. This company does not care about customer service, make certain that Capitol One is NOT in YOUR wallet!
