Bill-Me-Later
Shady dealings and poor customer service, ripoff

My husband "discovered" online-credit shortly before Christmas and spent quite a bit of money at by way of Bill-Me-Later. His understanding was that all his purchases were eligible for No payment until April 07.

He received a bill shortly afterwards (five days later&the bill date being three days after the purchase), but (and this was his bad) he didn't look at it as he understood that he didn't owe any money until April. Today I opened the mail and discovered that in fact there had been a minimum payment due and as he didn't make it—he was assessed a 30.00 fee.

It didn't take long to determine that customer service is trained to get rid of you as quickly as possible. My husband argued with a rude young rep for probably ten minutes. The rep made it clear that we were "in collections".

That was interesting, my husband said, because I just got my second bill from you today and there's no mention of collections on it. The young man refused to discuss removing the late fee or whether the purchase qualified for the "wait until April". It was $2.00 shy of the $250.00 required for it to be eligible, the man said. My husband insisted that there was no reference to this on the site, that he'd "clicked the box" and there had been no indication of there being a problem. My husband (who is far more patient than I am) finally requested to speak with a supervisor.

The supervisor was a lot more civil, but vague. She said she sent a request off to "corporate" to rectify the situation and that they will call us back in a week, but I have little faith that it was actually resolved. He requested that they take off the late charge and she said vaguely, "Yes, we might be able to do that." He pressed her for a specific reply and she finally agreed to do so. Again I am not confident.

I am curious about something else as well—They charged us for fourteen day's interest—between the day of purchase and the date of billing which were exactly three days apart? I'm not wonderful with numbers, but I don't see how they managed to squeeze that out of 72 hours.

We will pay our bill with them off next week and will never do business with them again.
