I received "collection letter" from Afni on 1/12 advising that I owe them $1008.60. It had the "original creditor" as Verizon Communications. I called Verizon first to get information and the representative said they are not finding ANYTHING with my name or the phone number that is the supposed billing number. I proceeded to call Afni and spoke to "Pat Wilson" who advised me that this "debt" is from 1994. That is all the information that he would provide me.
As I was requesting more information about this and also requesting this info to be sent to me via mail, he yelled at me and told me I need to pay. Also, he advised that I need to go to their website and request the information. When you go to their website, you are not able to request the info in writing like I was told.
I wish that I would have looked up complaint before I called them. I have typed up my letter and am sending it to them today via certified mail with a return receipt.
I have also filed a complaint on the FTC website. The Afni rep also threatened to ruin my credit! I checked my credit report this morning and do not see this creditor on my report. Is there anything else I can do in the meantime?
Thanks for all your help!
