I received a collection notice from AFNI for a supposed debt for an old Verizon account. Based on information and advice from other consumer complaints, within 30 days of AFNI's letter, I sent a letter disputing the claim and requesting verification pursuant to the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act. I used a letter I found here as a template for my letter. I sent this letter via certified mail with return receipt.
I received the green return receipt card showing they had received my letter. Soon I received a letter from AFNI stating that they had investigated my dispute and the account has been closed, they will take no further collection action, and they will direct credit reporting agencies to remove the account from my credit report.
