CitiFinancial Ripoff dishonest fraud for account pay off

I stupidly took out a fairly large home equity loan from CitiFinancial for 9.97% interest. I have taken out another loan at my bank to pay off the loan from CitiFinancial. My bank sent them a cashier's check in September to pay this loan off. CitiFinancial said they never got the check. My bank put a stop payment on the cashier's check in case someone stole it from the mail system. It took almost two months to figure out they didn't get the check. We then sent them another cashier's check for a lot higher pay off amount than the first check. We sent the second check via UPS overnight delivery to make sure the check got there in time to prevent any more interest accrual. I know for a fact CitiFinancial received the check. I have the print out from UPS verifying they received it and it also has the name of the person that signed for the delivery of the check.

About 2 weeks after they received the check they called me to tell me that they can't find the check. They expect me to make another payment at an even higher amount. They are making it sound like it's my fault they lost the check and are trying to make me responsible for it's loss. They are also adding more interest to what they expect me to pay. The loan officer from my bank and I have both tried to work with them to get this settled but have told them we won't pay any more than the amount of the second check because they lost it not me. They won't work with us on this so I am reporting them here to warn anyone not to go to CitiFinancial for any sort of loan or if you have one with them pay it off as soon as you can or get another loan through your bank to pay it off.

I believe they did receive the first check and destroyed it and purposely lost the second check so they can get more money out of me. Just the interest payments for those two months is over $1500. I have taken this problem to an attorney. He is going to handle the problem for me. If they don't settle for the pay off amount of the second try, we will take them to court and let a judge decide. It is even possible that we might try to sue them. They can't be allowed to do this to people. My attorney said they have certainly done this the many more people. I will not let them get away with this. Reporting them here on usacomplaints.com is my second step against this company. My next step is to send emails to everyone I know about this and have them forward it on to everyone they know.
