Complaint / Review
Compass Bank
NSF Ripoff

This was over a year ago, but I didn't know about this website otherwise I would've posted it then. I did file a complaint with the BBB, and Compas Bank never replied.

What happened is I was low in funds in my account because of some outstanding checks/debits, so in being responsible I did not write any checks or make any withdrawls from my account. I did use my check card on a Thursday night at about 9 pm. I got paid at midnight, Friday morning. Anything done after business hours is supposed to go in the following business day, correct? Not with Compass Bank.

About a month before that, they had sent out a 60 page booklet of every policy they have as to bury any changes that they made to everyone's account. The change was that using a check card goes in immediately. I'm sure they made other changes to cause more fees as well, but I didn't get caught with the others.

The first NSF fee caused a check to bounce and of course it was the largest check to bounce first as to make sure that the other 8 or 9 checks/debits bounced as well. This racked up about $280 worth of NSF fees.

When I spoke to Customer Service at the branch, they told me too bad. When I spoke to customer service on the phone, they told me I would have to speak to a manager. I said okay, they said the manager was at lunch and would call me back. Never happened... I called again and was told the exact same thing only this time the manager was on the phone. I'm not sure why they only have 1 Cust Service Manager working at a time.

Finally, about 12 hours after calling them the third time, someone called me back and told me she would refund 2 (if I remember correctly) of my NSF fees. Heck, when you steal $300, why not give them back $50, you still get away with $250.

I have been with (ROR REDACTED COMPETITORS NAME) ever since who was then bought by Capital One. And I must say I like this bank so much more.
