My wife was reviewing our bank statement and found a charge for 21.95 listed as "Membership Plus". She asked me if I had joined anything recently which I assured her I had not.
We called our bank and obtained a photocopy of an electronic check (note this is NOT a bank card transaction but a direct withdrawl) made out to Membership Plus and deposited at the 1st National Bank of Marysville, PA.
Now in no way should this be interpreted as the bank's fault. Im sure they had nothing to do with it, they just took the check.
Anyways, my wife called the 888 number listed on the transaction and got a very rude and uncooperative woman. Apparently she insisted my wife signed up for some roadside assistance "Trial Offer", ha.
My wife informed the woman that she did not suffer from any memory disorders and had not in fact signed up for anything. She demanded that Membership Plus refund the money.
The woman refused to refund the money and after several more probing questions from my wife, hung up.
Soo... I did some digging. I found the reports about Roadside Plus here and on other sites including a TV News Expose'.
It appears that Roadside Plus has restarted under a different name. While there is no way for me to prove it is the same individuals, the business practice is astoundingly similar.
In any case, if you have applied for a payday loan in the last month and were not approved or never recieved a response to your app, CHECK YOUR BANK ACCT CAREFULLY. Chances are youve been paying 21.95 for something that doesnt exist.
Our bank is now aware of this as is 1st National Bank of Marysville PA. If you read this and would like to narc the scumbags out as well, you can find the banks' phone number on their website on this page:
