Homecomings Financial
Impossible to deal with, keep changing contact people, can't get a direct line, even with an extension numbe

I'm responding to Kathy from Springfield and adding a horror story of my own about Homecomings Financial. We had beem working with and were forced to declare bankruptcy, which since has beem discharged, just like Kathy. We've been switched to so many different divisions and people it is not funny. They called us once, and when both my husband and I returned the call the same day, could not get the person back on the phone. Even when their contact people leave an extension number, there is no option to press the person's extension EVER during your call. When we call and need "our" representative in San Diege, the calls still go through another location. They can track that I've called three times in one week, and acknowledge that no one has called me back, but they can't ever give me any answers.

We got so far as a verbal agreement to begin a settlement for XX number of dollars toward our arrears, but they never put that in writing and we were advised not to send them ANY money without a written agreement.
They sent us papers to fill out while we were in bankruptcy to see if we could make any payments, then told us they "didn't even get them, lost them, or couldn't do anything at that time" when we called again repeatedly after several months of calling and calling.
Still unable to reach "my" designated Homecomings representative, one Friday another employee, who like in Kathy's case refused to transfer me, connect me with my unresponsive rep, etc., told me a) "We can't accept any money or payments from you while you are in bankruptcy" and b) "We're not allowed to talk to you without permission from your lawyer."

My lawyer's response was I had to work something out with Homecomings. He did fax a note that they could talk to us.

Our bankruptcy also has been discharged, our credit scores are going up, we both are fully employed and things are looking up EXCEPT for our mortgage. We've been told because Homecomings wouldn't accept any money from us and we subsequently show very delinquent in mortage payment history, we've been blocked from getting a new mortgage from a different company.

The last message I left with Homecomings, followed by a fax asking what is going on, still hasn't been returned. We also are looking at foreclosure when all we've trying to do is resume paying our mortgage. I've never been so frustrated in my entire life.

We have explored hiring a mediator, which we considered before, rejected because of the cost (many charge one month's mortgage payment), but have turned to again because no ordinary person or even an attorney seems able to work with Homecomings.

That's what I'd recommend to Kathy. There are many different companies out there, but if you do an Internet search for foreclosure prevention, you can start your search. You have to answer some questions to make sure you can afford to resume your mortgage, if that's a question or issue, and that the problem or problems that caused you to fall behind have been resolved. If they have, through your bankruptcy discharge, you should be able to work to prevent foreclosure.

Companies I have explored so far have readily admitted Homecomings is difficult. One company told me 180 of their foreclosure prevention customers have mortgages with Homecomings Financial.

Good luck to you and all of us fighting that company. I sincerely think, if there really are some good people in Homecomings higher up, that they need to see where things are going wrong, and why people can't reach their account representatives. How could one person tell me I needed to make payments and another tell me they could not accept any payments?
