Amsouth Bank
Ripoff or an employee stealing my money?

I have read much on here about Amsouth withdrawing people's od protection. This happened to me at the time when a relative borrowed money and did not repay (at Christmas) and I was forced to use my od protection. Big mistake.

The problem got even worse when I made a deposit. I stay extremely busy so I decided to use the night drop two weeks ago to make a deposit of $500 in cash. They're my bank, so of course I trust them with my money. Big mistake #2. Today I find out that money was never posted to my account. After many calls someone finally calls me back and tells me they found my envelope I used for my deposit. Then they put me on hold. After being on hold for 5 minutes I decided to call them back and I asked to speak with the person by name who was handling this for me. I was told she was gone for the day. I can't help but wonder if perhaps one of their employees stole my money. If the bank does not assist me I will be forced to seek the police dept for help in a criminal investigation.

I had a similar problem with this same branch after hurricane Ivan. My insurance company wrote me a check, I deposited the check, and a few days later when I was on my way out of town in an emergency for a dying family member when my check card was declined. I was told by Amsouth the insurance check bounced. Come to find out someone at this branch put a sticker on top of the check where my insurance company's acct number was. The new sticker had my acct number on it. Amsouth would not acknowledge their mistake. It took six weeks, 40 hours worth of phone calls to Amsouth, and a few calls to my governor's office to get the problem resolved.

If you have an issue like this and are unable to resolve it quickly and to your satisfaction your state banking board will assist you in your fight against the bank. If you feel criminal activity was involved visit your local pd. It's much easier to win a civil suit if the cops have already proven for you that a crime has been committed.
