I contacted Academy Collection Agency to settle a debt that was outstanding. I informed them of my intent to pay and that I wanted to make payment arrangements. The representative who was a guy stipulated that I could not make payment arrangements and that he was entitled to do a settlement offer if only I would submit a post dated check. I explained that I was not interested in submitting my banking information but that I was more than happy to send the payments in by mail.
He started screaming in my ear about that he was not going to accept that and that if I wanted to avoid legal action and being put in jail that I had to submit the checks or else. I then asked to speak to a supervisor.
After a brief sound of clicks, another cruel and demeaning man who claimed his name was Mark Gordon stated that I owed the debt and it had to be paid today or they will do a wage garnishment. I then informed them that it was my right to make the arrangement based on my ability to pay which to me was more than the average payment. He then started talking over me and telling me that I had no right to make a demand and if he wanted to accept payments, I had to pay 30% down and then make my agreed monthly payment.
I then asked for his name and address and he proceeded to yell and tell me that he was not going to give me either and he hung up.
I filed a complaint with the BBB and the FTC. Is there any other place I could go because I think it is unfair to the people like me who are willing to pay their debt.
Thanks
