Wells Fargo Bank
Fraudulently opened VISA account even though I said no, ripoff

Looking for advice of what agencies to report bank fraud and what restitution I can expect from Wells Fargo.

On 12/17/05 I went into my local Wells Fargo branch to withdraw some funds from savings. The teller proceeded to give me sales pitch on a Rewards VISA that I qualified for. I asked a few questions about the VISA and then I told her I didn't want to commit to opening an account, that I needed to discuss it with my husband. I never signed anything and I was not given any literature about the Rewards VISA.

On 12/19/05 I went on line to look at my checking account and discovered that I now had a VISA that had been opened 12/17 with a rather large limit. After placing several different calls to Wells Fargo and filtering down to the branch manager and service manager, I discovered the teller authorized the opening of the account, and that she would be reprimanded. Apparently tellers receive points or commission for opening new accounts. All the manager could say is "I'm sorry." The bank was instructed to close the account.

I'm concerned that this could affect my credit score since it may look like I was seeking more credit, so I understand I now have to write the 3 credit report bureaus explaining this bank "mistake."

Can I expect any restitution from the bank for the time I've missed from my self-employment work to devote to phone calls, writing letters and possibly damaged credit score?
