In December I opened a Capital One secured card with a deposit of $500, for a corresponding credit limit of $500. I did this to build credit history. Two weeks ago, I closed the account because I no longer need it (I am able to obtain cheaper unsecured credit now that I've established a history).
When I closed the account, the balance was $513. Now, my math tells me I owe them $13. However, the statement I received today states that I owe them $404. When I called, I got someone in India, who informed me that my initial deposit was only $99. LIES LIES LIES! Unfortunately, I shredded the money order receipt I sent them because I never imagined I would need it again.
RUN FAR, FAR AWAY FROM THESE THIEVES! Not only do they rob you blind with exorbitant interest rates (subject to increase for no apparent reason, BTW) but their annual fees are outrageous. Never again. Tell your friends.
