When my husband and I changed banks due to shady practices, we went to BB&T as they seemed to be an upstanding bank. How wrong we were.

My husbands works 2 jobs and gets paid every friday from one job or the other. Each paycheck is deposited every Thursday night into our checking account. Each Friday when I check online and thru the 24 hour teller there is always an available amount which is short $100 - $200 dollars.

There are always NSF fees no matter how hard I try to balance my bill paying with his deposited paychecks. The last straw was when I checked the amount in our account on Thursday night.

On Thursday, October 27 at 9:00 P.M. I saw that there was $50 dollars in the account. I knew one of his larger paychecks was to be deposited after midnight.

On Friday, October 28 at 9:00 A.M., I check our online account again and was puzzeled when I saw there was only $586 dollars available to me instead of $918 (not counting the $50).

I went ahead and paid some household bills up to $500 dollars. The rest I used to buy groceries, which cut me way short. I called my husband and asked him about the missing $314. My husband said maybe they were taking the money out for overdraft coverage because everytime he checked, there was at least $100-$200 dollars missing from his largest paycheck.

I called BB&T to ask if this was the case and you would not believe what they told me. They said that when his direct deposits comes in, they are not available to us eventhough it clearly says it is available online and by 24 hour teller.

Therefore, any purchases made that day against the direct deposit is automatically going to cause an NSF fee ($34) eventhough they pay the amount for whatever I purchased/paid for.

I was floored!!! I went back online and looked and sure enough, we were charged $34 dollars for each bill I paid and for the groceries I purchased which put us in the negative for $433.

So when his direct deposit of over $300 dollars was available, they took it to pay for the amassed fees leaving us still with a negative $79 dollars to pay.

When I confronted the bank officer about this, she said since we never had a refund of fees before, she would talk to her supervisor about giving us one. She called me back after talking with her supervisor and she said he would only give us half of the actual fee amount which was $272 dollars.

Well, needless to say, we only got $136 dollars back and creditors that I promised to pay on Friday cannot be paid until next Friday which interferes with paying our mortgage.

This has been going on for the last 6 pay periods and I need to know if there is any way to stop it or sue for the amount of money we lost due to this practice. As of today, it all totals up to over $900 dollars. Now I know what happened when I deposited $5000 dollars in my checking account and took my kids school shopping.

All the purchases I made that day were approved, but I was charged NSF fee everytime. That obviously went on for approximately 5 days AFTER the deposit.
