I received a call at work from a jerk representing himself as John Getz. He stated that he was from Anderson, Crenshaw and Associates and was calling re: an outstanding bill from an alarm system from a previous residence. He stated that we owed his client money and was attempting to collect.
I told him to please call my husband at home, to please not bother me at work. He became argumentative and I repeated myself to him to not call me at work and I hung up on him. The following day, this guy called my job looking for me. My receptionist told him that I had left for the day and he began terrorizing my office.
He called repeatedly accusing my staff of being liars, yelling at them and hanging up and calling again and again. He called at least 10 times in 20 minutes. My supervisor got on the phone and told him I was unavailable, is there any thing that he could help him with?
After asking Mr. Getz repeatedly, mr. Getz finally told him that this was regarding me and my husband and that he was a bill collector. Uh. ILLEGAL! My staff called me on my cell to tell me about this idot and could I PLEASE call him. I called home first and let my husband know, then I called the jerk. He said that he had my husband on the phone already on the other line because I had already called home and"whined" that he was bothering me.
I told him that he cannot contact me at work, that I have a "real" job and was busy. He told me "it's people like you that I have a job. Figure out the pecking order there!" I was taken aback, but told him to continue talking with my husband.in the meantime, I got on a land line and attempted to contact this guy's supervisor.
There is no way that this guy can treat me like this! When they connected me, I got HIM! There was no escaping him. What kind of game were we playing??! I was not present to hear my husband's side of the phone call, but it was obvious when I got home that he was beyond pissed. My husband said that when he began his conversation with him. He asked how many times that he had called me at work today. Mr. Getz said "at least a few times" but that he was getting the runaround. My husband asked if he "understood the collection laws? That's called harrassment" He said "yes I do understand, and I'll start earlier tomorrow."
We are upstanding citizens and we pay all our debts. Because of some moron at the alarm system company that we dealt with in the past. They never acknowledged our cancellation notice when we sold our previous residence and because we kept no paper trail. We got screwed. To save our credit, we paid the outstanding debt. I hope that no one else ever has to go through this HORRIBLE experience.
