I received a letter from Merchant's Credit Guide Services on 10/18/04 stating that I owed them $1,969.43 for a Sears account. The letter stated there were 3 payment plans: Pay in full by a one-time equivalent payment of 50%; pay in full by 3 equal consecutive payments of 70%; or make monthly payments that are afforable.
I called and talked with Darwin Mitchell one of the representatives and he explained that the debt was for a Sears Credit card that was opened in 1993. I told him I had never had a Sears credit card and I should not be liable for the debt. I sent a letter to the company stating that the account was over 5 years old and they couldn't collect any money for the debt and I also stated that I denied all debt.
A little over a month later Darwin Mitchell called me at home and said that I needed to make arrangements to pay this debt. I told him that I sent a letter disputing the debt and I was not liable. Mr. Mitchell said that I was just trying to get out of paying the debt and hung up the phone on me.
