It looks as if Merchant's is at it again!
My sister-in-law received a letter from Merchant's, on behalf of Genesis Financial Solutions, saying they (Genesis) had purchased a debt of $800 from a Sears account she had 15 years ago and they would like to know how she would like to pay it off!
She called the 888-number and spoke with someone, explaining to them that she (and her now ex) had paid it off at that time, making arrangements directly with Sears. The lady asked when they could expect payment. She told them that she could not make any payments for the next two years as she is currently unemployed. Probably not the thing to say... But, the lady from Merchant's HUNG UP ON HER!
We plan on contacting the AG's office in Illinois to see what can be done. If this has happened to you or a loved one please do the same.
