I canceled my Citi ATM card several months ago. At the time, I asked if there was anything I needed to pay or do, to settle up and be done with the account forever. They said no.
Fast forward several months, at which point I learn they have continued to charge me for some kind of "identity monitor" protection on the card, plus tons of late fees and interest, even though they never told me I had to cancel the identity monitor separately from the card.
I have been fighting this for months, trying to lodge a dispute/complaint. Every time I call, I spend an hour on hold, bouncing back and forth between Citi and Identity Monitor; both sides insist it is not their problem.
The woman I just spoke with said, "sorry, but I can't seem to get through a to a manager. You will have to call back and go through this again" (as in be put on hold yet another hour!) They refuse to give me a direct number or address where I can dispute this fraudulent charge.
This must be the greatest scam in the world to them - fail to tell people they have to cancel identity monitor separately, then charge up hundreds of dollars of late fees and make it impossible to even call and lodge a dispute/complaint. I can't imagine this is even legal, not to mention ethical. I will never, ever do business with Citi again, and will tell all of my friends and family about their fraudulent practices.
