The banking manager allowed SunTrust to deduct fees from two accounts that were sold as "free" checking accounts. When the issue was brought to the manager's attention, she refused to reverse the fees, which totaled $160. She claimed that the accounts may have been set up as free, but that the bank had the right to alter the fee structure on all accounts with proper advance notice.
She claimed that the bank had contacted me by mail to notify me of the account change. I never received notification, and because the accounts were rarely used, I was unaware of the charges. The bank was unable to prove that it sent notification; however, the manager refused to refund the fees. Her response to my concern was to tell me "it wasn't her fault that I didn't read or receive the notice."
