I have been getting several overdraft fees from BB&T that were never my fault. The other day I went to check my bank balance and it was -$0.84, so I went to the bank about it. The man who helped me said I had been charged an overdraft fee because I made two charges on my debit card that did show on the screen he showed me.
He could clearly see that the two charges added up to only $10, and I told him I had $57 in my checking account. He laughed at me and said no, I only had $7.00 in my checking account. I knew that was not true because I needed at least $37 in my checking account to pay for a gym payment. He called up everyone I had made purchases with, trying to blame them for it, invading my privacy and asking me stupid questions like whether I was sure I was not crazy.
I even had a paper showing I had that money in my checking account, and he told me not even to do the calculation to make sure I had the right amounts, because it would all be wrong. How crazy! This makes me not want to spend any of my money, because I could have enough money and the next day be overdrawn. Worst of all, he told me I would be hit with another overdraft fee.
My question to him was this: if I only had $7.00 in the bank that day and the overdraft fee is $35.00, would that not put me at -$28.00 instead of -$0.84? Not to mention BB&T had taken more money out than that, because it was $57.00 to begin with. He got quiet and called for someone else to help me, who also laughed with him, making a joke out of it as if I were stupid and did not know what I was talking about.
I am still at -$30.84, plus that other overdraft fee about to come, which will then make it -$65.84. But I am not supposed to trust my calculations, so it could be much more. I am going there today to complain loudly, because I am not going to be treated like I am stupid. Then I am closing my account and moving to SunTrust. By the way, I had an overdraft fee that did not even show in my account at all, but they made me pay it anyway.
