I recently had an overdraft of $5.20 against my checking account. This was again because of checking kiting but that is not the topic of my posting. I have a savings account that I use in case of an overdraft. Fifth Third charged me $14.20 out of my savings account, $5.20 for the initial overdraft and a $9.00 overdraft transfer fee.
Today when I went to check my account online, they had charged me another $9.00 overdraft transfer fee. I contacted the manager of my branch and she agreed that the fee should not have been withdrawn from my account. She reversed the fee and it has since credited back into my checking account.
This is just a warning to those of you who bank with Fifth Third. You must be diligent about watching your account balances because had I not been, they would have kept the nine dollars, and I would have been none the wiser. I did not even receive an overdraft letter via mail.
