I closed my credit card with Citibank in January and cancelled the credit protection at the same time, but they were still charging me for the protection. I made phone calls for over 6 months.
Then I sent certified letters, and all I got back was a computerized letter from an S. Larson stating that I enrolled by pressing something like 1, 2, 7 to enroll. I can't even believe this. I wrote back that I wasn't disputing that I enrolled; I was disputing that it was cancelled. Then I received another letter from S. Larson (the head of the customer service department) stating that the fees billed prior to that date (10) are valid and non-refundable. After another 6 months and many more letters and calls, they say they credited me all they owe, but by this time I'm not even sure the balance I am supposed to owe is valid. This balance is still in dispute!
The next step was a payment I sent them in February, on which I wrote "PAID IN FULL" in error. I requested the check back, and they wrote back to me again that they just process the checks, do not look at them, and cannot send it back.
So again I disputed the balance: if you accept a check marked "PAID IN FULL," then you accept the terms! They disagree, and I have requested their disclosures 4 times and have not received them yet (06/20). I received a computerized letter (now all their correspondence to me is computerized) stating, "If a payment (s) is received by us, it will be processed for the amount on the written line. We are unable to return the payment to you or destroy it."
I just learned today, after calling and getting the runaround, that the letters I have been sending them for all of these disputes have not been good enough, according to Sandra, who referred this to her supervisor (06/20). Now they tell me I need to be more specific, as if I haven't been, and to start the process all over regarding my balance dispute.
And yes, I requested their disclosures regarding the Citi credit card and specifically asked for the one that states how they process payments, and I could not be assured that this information would be in the disclosure that Sandra is supposedly sending me again.
After a year and a half, they have not put a dispute on my account, and they have reported me to the credit bureau. How unfair is this!
