Three weeks ago I signed up for DirecTV at a Costco kiosk in their Carlsbad warehouse. The two people working there advised me to buy an $89.00 HDMI cable set. It turned out I did not need it for this new hook-up, so I returned it. They booked my installation for Saturday, 12-29 at 1:30PM. A technician from Ironwood Communications showed up at 11:30AM, well ahead of the 1:30PM slot, and he was the only pleasant part of this whole ordeal.
Sadly, he had to move the visit to the next Saturday, Jan 05 at 1130. On that day DirecTV phoned us to say the technician would come "between 11:30 - 2:30PM." Nobody came. They phoned again to say he would arrive "between 5:00 - 6:30PM." Again nobody came and nobody called. We stayed up until midnight and then went to bed. On Sunday, Jan 06 at 9:00AM I called DirecTV to complain and requested a technician that same day, because this project had eaten our whole weekend.
The woman I spoke to offered the following Wednesday or Saturday and told me to take it or leave it. I called back and cancelled the sales contract. I emailed complaints to both DirecTV and Costco, and neither has answered. Apparently neither company expects to do better by its members or potential customers. So I plan to picket their store entrance over DirecTV and its partner Ironwood Communications, to warn unsuspecting customers about the problems they can expect. Stay away from both, and do a google search on Ironwood Communications and read what comes up!
