I signed a DirecTV contract at Costco and was given a Saturday installation date. The installer turned up at 11 AM although my slot was 1:30 PM, and then said he had to reschedule for the following Saturday. A week later the new window was "between 11AM to 2:30PM," and nobody came. DirecTV phoned to move the visit to "between 5 - 6:30PM." Midnight arrived with no technician and no call. The next day, Sunday, I phoned DirecTV to complain. They offered me a Wednesday or yet another Saturday, meaning I would either lose a workday or give up a third Saturday, three weekends after I signed the service agreement.
This is poor business and poor customer care. Anyone with a tile roof should be careful. Earlier, the same people at Ironwood Communications, a DirecTV installer in San Diego, did an installation at my house in Encinitas. That fall I got an eight foot leak, and the repair cost me $4500.00. The contractor told me the tiles had been cracked by someone walking on the roof, most likely while mounting the dish, since those installers were the only people who had EVER been up there. Nice, right?
I think Costco is careless and irresponsible for selling DirecTV in its warehouses to members who trust it and deserve better for their paid membership. Non-members deserve better as well, but this company will not provide it. Do what I did: search Google for Directv and read the many negative legal complaint links that come up. Is HDTV so important that you cannot get it elsewhere? Have you heard of Netflix? Or the free books at your local library? And to get out of the contract before 18 months, it costs $495.00.
