Cancellation Due to Death

I requested an additional receiver for my Mother's bedroom (she was terminally ill) and specified I did not need a "plan" because unfortunately my Mother was not expected to survive as long as a plan would run. Whatever charge was appropriate considering the 9 years my parents had been customers would be fine. My Mother passed away, I had the received disconnected and sent in the box, then I cancelled the home service 3 months later (again, after 9 years of service). Direct TV charged my Father $280.00 for "early termination". When I called I was hit with a barrage of salesmanship, not condolences or understanding. NO, I didn't want Direct TV at my Dad's Alzheimer's Facility, and NO, there is no one left in the home. Several calls and lies later I learned that the process of signing up to the cancellation I was lied to because there are no services that go for less than 2 years. Funny, I thought the previous 9 years of service was more than 2 years. Still, now I have to prove that my Mother died so the $280.00 will be refunded. This is a horrile company without a heart.
