Cancellation fee charged even though we have passed the minimum time requirement

We have been customers with Direct TV since September 19.in the fall of 2008 we purchased, with our own money a Direct TV HD receiver/DVR combo at Best Buy. We knew going in, as rediculous as it is that if we ever canceled our Direct TV service we would have to return the receiver to the company. On top of that we paid a monthly fee to USE the receiver. Also rediculous, but we knew it going in.
It is now February 23 and we have opted to cut back our expenses and cancel our service. We were told when we called to cancel that we would be charged a $160 early termination fee because we had not stayed with the company for two years. When we purched the new receiver in 08, to go along with our HD TV, they re-started our contract without notice. We did not sign any paperwork nor receive any paperwork saying that our contract would be re-started.
We have filed a complaint with the Attorney General and sent an email to the CEO of direct tv. We have clearly been with this company for more than the minimum two years and will NOT be paying this fee. We will get an attorney if need be.
The supervisorr we spoke to was named Chris. His employee # is U7596. They refused to give us a phone number or a physical address. We looked them up on the internet.
